Can Lupus Nephritis Patients Eat Lemon
Lemon is of high medical value and it is rich in vitamin C, sugar, calcium and citric acid, etc. Is there anyone who dose not love it?. Yes, the Lupus Nephritis patients.

Generally, the causes of Lupus Nephritis are as follows:

Hormone: It mainly refers to estrogen and prolactin.

Cellular immune system: The disordered the immune system produces a variety of autoantibodies, which will form immune complexes with antigens. The deposition of those immune complexes causes Lupus Nephritis.

Heredity: The genetic factors also play a role in development of the disease.

Environment: The most common environmental factor is the sunlight. Many Lupus Nephritis patients have been allergic to it. There are some foods which are more likely to provoke sun sensitivity (photosensitivity), for example, lemon, celery, carrot, pawpaw, leek and lettuce. This kind of foods have a same scientific name—Sun-Sensitive Food.

You can see that lemon is on the “dangerous foods list”. Those Sun-Sensitive foods are rich of metallic elements, which will increase the activity of melanogenesis. If you eat too much those foods, you skin will be more more susceptible to UV (ultraviolet ray).UV can stimulate a large amount of oxyradical that will destroy cell tissues. As a result, the resistant ability of your skin will be weakened and skin allergies, inflammation as well as pigmentation occur. In that case, lemon does more harm than good to your body.

Therefore, Lupus Nephritis patients are not recommended to take too many lemons. It dose not mean you cannot eat lemon at all. If you cannot help eating some, try to keep a reasonable quantity and protect you from sunlight after eating.
